It is laced with descriptions of day- to- day experiences of both the veterans and the residents of the towns that hosted them during their 6 month stay in the region. With smatterings of poetry from the time (written by some rather laconic wits), personal photos and ‘real life’ accounts, the book is as much a social history of the time as it is a military one.
