Gunnedah’s Boer War Connection
Did you know that the Gunnedah area was a major recruiting centre for the Boer War?
Write Right Media, with the assistance of Grace Turner, is pursuing Gunnedah’s connection to the Boer War. With a starting point of twenty-nine persons listed on what has come to be known as the Boer War Memorial in Kitchener Park, Gunnedah, Geordie Clark and Grace Turner have now identified more than one hundred persons of interest associated with the conflict who are linked with Gunnedah and surrounds. Many of these men served with distinction in this, the first war in which Australia engaged as a nation. As the move toward a national memorial for these men gains momentum, Geordie and Grace feel that it is fitting that a written tribute should be made to Gunnedah’s almost forgotten soldiers. Now they need YOUR help. Do you have any letters, postcards, photos, anecdotes or other information connected to any of these men? Maybe you have a name that's not on the list? Veteran and Volunteer names of Interest If you would like to contribute please email Geordie (geordie@writerightmedia.com.au) or Grace (grace@writerightmedia.com.au) |
